Review: World Market Soaps | Sensitive Skin Friendly

For anyone who has followed me for a long time, you know that my skin has just been overly sensitive to a lot of chemicals in hygiene products. I am happy to say that I found a soap that really does not make my skin itch or red. This is the “higher-end” version of the Irish Spring soap that I usually get, which I also recommend!

Packaging: I wish that it wasn’t plastic, but I do appreciate that you can smell the scent in store before purchase. All the soaps are pretty fragrant but naturally and you can’t smell any chemicals. The label is just beautiful. I love me a good label which is 99% of why I reach for something that I have never used before.

Durability: I think that it depends on how many showers you tend to take in a given time. I take showers 4-7 times a week. I would say that to completely finish the soap off, a month and a half. If you are talking about the soap being whole until it falls to pieces, I would say a month.

Pigmentation: The color does not transfer to the skin, which I would be concerned if it did, and lathers a little but not too much.

Budget: 5.99. This is something I am willing to splurge on in order to make sure that my skin is not reacting to some cheap soap.

My goal is to use my mass amount of shampoo, conditioner, face products, etc. so that I can really focus on what I like to use and that actually works for me. Of course, I still love to try new things but as I am reaching the end of my college journey, I am trying to downsize a lot of stuff.

Pro-Tip: Sign up for the World Market rewards so that you can get discounts and coupons for items or purchases. I love it when my sister gets $10 off of $30 coupons. You don’t have to have a card, they can look it up on your phone!

Also, the soap pictured is my absolute favorite! The other one I like is the blue one that has Water Lily (I think). But, find the one that speaks to you! Or should I say…smells to you?

Review: Alternatives to Bras

If you are weirded out by talking about nipples, then this might not be for you but come back next week and I will see you then!

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but wearing bras creates odd indentions or marks on the body. Yes, I do wear the right size bra, but it still binds me. Maybe, I am wrong? What I do know is that I love to wear nipple covers now. I would like to talk about my experience with the “chicken cutlets” and nipple covers that I have tried out. I cannot say enough how important it is to invest in nipple covers, especially since the skin is so sensitive.

The “Chicken Cutlet”
This is the very first non-bra that I ever purchased because I had a dress that had a lace back. I think that if you are new to the world of going braless that this is a great way to dip your toes in. I think that it is fine and it does stick but I do not feel the “lift” action that it claims. It would stay together in the center but the inner 1/4 of the sticky bra, the cups were not stuck to my skin at all. I think it is also not meant to stick if you have a B-cup or smaller. I think that if you have a larger breast cup size that it will do some cleavage action but still not lift. But, the material is really well made if you do invest.

Remember how I mentioned how important it is to invest? Well, I have to say that these are the worst, for me. I have sensitive skin and am allergic to latex and while band-aids have latex-free versions, I have yet to find band-aid like nippies that are latex free. I bought a 40 pack to take with me to Berlin because they are disposable but they were horrid. I ended up scratching them off because my skin became red. They are also a struggle for me to put on because they do not curve as well as I would have thought. I think that if you cut the petals to the point of the nipple fabric cover that you could make it lay flat. I have a whole bunch of some like these that I have no clue what to do with. I wish that these had worked because they are so convenient in terms of disposal.

These are probably the most common and accessible nippies that you can find in stores. They are small in terms of covering your nipple. I find that they just cover my nipple, when relaxed, and that is a bit frustrating. These do stay on no matter what. Sometimes they pucker around the edges because they are not laying right or because I put them on when my nipple is “perky.” These are not fully opaque so if your nipple is really dark, you can probably still see it through light clothing. The “outside” material has a sheen and the inside material is ribbed. They are easy to clean with warm water and soap. I let these air dry in my bathroom and use them the next day. I think that these are really affordable at $12.99. I like that they are easily accessible.

The Holy Grail (with one flaw)
This is by Nippies Skin and my absolute favorite. I purchased these based on reviews from Amazon. I purchased the medium color and I will be purchasing these in the future. They are the most expensive of all the options landing around $20+ but they are worth it. They cover my nipples and more. I have had mine for over 3 months now and wear them every day when I am out. They stay on the whole day, even in the worst heat. My only problem is that under certain tops that you can see the outline of the nippie which sucks when you don’t realize it until the sun hits you. I just know now to wear a bra with those tops though.

Do you like to wear nippies? What is your favorite brand? Have any questions? Leave them down below!

3 Youtubers That Inspire Me

It has been a long time since I have posted something about YouTube and the inspiration I gain from it. I watch YouTube almost every single day. For me, it is a creative network that I can look to so that I can fuel my blog, life, and just thoughts. YouTube has become such a huge influence in the world and recently, it has been even more of an inspiration. There are 3 YouTubers who are influencing me in the sense of representation, creative style, and generally feel good emotions. They are also amazing fashion, beauty, and lifestyle YouTubes who you should follow if you haven’t already!

The 3 Youtubers are:
ilikeweylie | Weylie Hoang | Weylie’s YouTube Channel| Weylie’s Instagram
clothesencounters | Jenn Im | Jenn’s YouTube Channel | Jenn’s Instagram
sophiachang | Sophia Chang | Sophia’s YouTube | Sophia’s Instagram

All three ladies are inspiring and I just wanted to write this post in appreciation to how they make me, an Asian American woman, feel and grow as a person.

Weylie is someone you may know from her tampon instructional video. I started to watch Weylie, probably in 2015, and was inspired by her attitude and happy demeanor. I also watch her vlogs with her boyfriend Wah, and they are very open about their relationship and life. Weylie is that person who can really give you some advice and it resonates and is coming from a good place. She is like an online sister who checks in with you every week or couple of days. I feel like I can watch her videos and really feel at ease with where I am in my life because Weylie, maybe she just doesn’t know it, but she has a way of saying things that really helps me out in times of stress or unknown future.

Jenn is seriously such a cool girl that has a great sense of style (I mean, all these girls do!) and is there to be a positive force. I feel like Jenn is someone who really puts others first. By watching her videos, she really loves to explore and keep things fresh for herself and for her content on YouTube. Her soon-to-be husband, Ben, is so sweet and they are a strong duo. I just can’t wait to continue watching her videos and being influenced by her personality and videos.

Sophia is the girl who could literally beat some sense into you. She is a bad-a kind of gal who I feel could be in your corner if you needed a friend. I love the dynamic between her and Weylie because she is someone who can bring out your wild side and make you laugh like crazy. All three girls combined creates an even crazier, amazing, dynamic that I love and envy to have with my own friends. I love her free spirit, awesome tattoos, and no B-S kind of life. She is an inspiration and her videos are just masterpieces.

All three ladies combined create such an awesome trio of ladies who represent Asian Americans in a way that I think relates to a lot of us out there. I seriously cannot wait to see more of their videos and become motivated to really be okay with who I am, what I look like, and being creative.

Review: Ulta Intensive Treatment Night Repair Cream

Ulta Intensive Treatment Night Repair Cream

It has been a long time since I have done a beauty post. I am sad to report that this product just isn’t up to par for my skin and here is why…

Ulta Intensive Treatment Night Repair Cream

Packaging: I am actually a big fan of the packaging because it is sturdy and smooth. I will say that it isn’t the best to travel with but I started to use it repeatedly after I got back from Berlin.

Durability: This went from something that was a thick kind of cream to one that doesn’t seem to blend in on my damp skin. I feel like I have to really work the product in. My biggest issue isn’t that though, it is the fact that my skin felt worse after using it for over a month straight. My skin has some texture due to acne scars from the past and my skin never felt moisturized. My final straw was when the area between my brows flaked so badly.

Facetune

Pigmentation: White but once blended in is clear. Can be streaky.

Budget: It isn’t available anymore but there may be some still roaming around in the clearance section at Ulta.

How did this moisturizer work out for you? What is your favorite moisturizer? Leave it in the comments below!

The New Look of The Mermaid Network

Header7

As some of you know, I have been blogging since 2010 and I have had my theme for about 3-4 years. I think it was time for a change. I am a person who does get tired rather quickly of things that don’t really suit who I am. I felt for a long time that I had what I loved in The Mermaid Network but it became so many things shoved into one. So, I decided to make things super easy for constant and new readers. I also want to continue to evolve with The Mermaid Network. Starting a blog at 17 has a different perspective than having worked on a blog and continuing at the age of 24. I am hoping to keep up with the changes in myself and with the world around me.

The new layout, there are clear categories now at the upper right-hand corner. The search bar is in the center for easy access to type in any keywords you are looking for. The feed is now very much like Instagram style in squares. I am a huge fan of Instagram and update that most often above all other social media. So, my theme reflects that kind of feel. I also have all of what is normally in the sidebar down below so that it isn’t too visually stimulating.

I hope that this will lessen the confusion on my site! I know that school has been keeping me away from The Mermaid Network. My decision was a no-brainer because school is important to me but I love to keep in contact with everyone.

Let me know what you want to see on The Mermaid Network and I will try to make that happen.

Lush Haul!

img_2624

Well folks, I finally made a UK purchase from Lush and had it ship all the way here, to North Carolina. The process? So easy that you would be surprised. I compared prices while shopping and would you know, the Frozen bath bomb is $8.95 in the states and only £4.25 which translates to $5.20. It took about a week for my items to get here. I am kind of bummed that there wasn’t a way to track my package. However, alls well that ends well because my order arrived safe and sound.

All of these items were packaged naked, except for the soap, which is a great way to be eco-friendly. The potato starch popcorn dissolve in water or will degrade over time. I love that Lush thinks about these things and really make it the most biodegradable company that I have purchased from.

Now that we got the business out of the way, here is a list of what I got:
(L to R)
Titsy Totsy bath bomb
Autumn Leaf bath bomb
Star Dust bath bomb
Intergalactic bath bomb
Milky Bar soap
Sakura bath bomb

The package smells extremely fresh and as I am typing it, my office space definitely smells like a Lush store. I highly recommend buying from Lush. I will be doing reviews as I try these wonderful smelling products.

What should I get next time I order from Lush?

Beauty and Life Survival Kit

When I got to college, I knew that I needed a survival kit of sorts in order to stay on top of my life. So, here is what I have in my locker at college, right now. We use lockers, say what? Anyway, to make a note, I would suggest reusing a bag that is sturdy because that way it is easier to keep shifting things around without it being a grocery bag.

Inside the bag:
Medicine – I have aspirin, ibuprofen, mints, cough drops, allergy medicine, and benedryl. An assortment that gives me enough of each in order to function should I need it.
Feminine Products – 100% need this no matter where you are. I started out with 6 and have dwindled that down since I forget sometimes to pack an extra one in my purse.
First-aid kit – I purchased this at Target, I think, but you can easily get this at most stores for a good deal compared to buying them all separately.
Hair Accessories – You know, sometimes you just have to run out the door but with a container of bobby pins and hair ties, almost any hair style is achievable. For a container, I used an old sugar scrub container to keep the hair accessories inside.
Assorted Extras – Perfume, in case you need a refresher. Pen and highlighter because you never know when you will need it. Hand sanitizer and tissues because we should have those handy no matter where we are.

FOOD:
Okay, you can see that I have a food bag too and that is because I need snacks. I love Little Bites, Boom Chicka Pop, and things that are generally lighter on the palette compared to chips and other heavy junk food.

I keep water in my studio but if you don’t have a place that is your own on campus, put water bottles in your work space and mark your name on them.

Hope that this helps! What is in your survival kit?

Skin First + Strong Foundation

I want to start off TiffanytheShopaHAULic by saying that if you are not happy with yourself without makeup, it will be really hard to be happy in the long run. I have had a lot of struggle in the past with myself feeling ugly because I had horrible acne and nothing was working. I swore off anything for a long time that would cause me acne, including my beloved chocolate.

I wore makeup often but realized that it wasn’t worth covering up my acne if more started to appear and after about two years of applying makeup as often as I could, I stopped doing it so much. I would only apply makeup when my skin was calmer than normal and felt much better. I love that makeup can accentuate my eye shape, I love it, and covering my dark spots.

Thankfully, by focusing on my skin instead of covering my “imperfections,” I have gotten to a much happier place where I feel that makeup is something that is for fun, pure fun. I don’t have to overthink wearing too much makeup if I don’t want or wearing too little. I choose to focus on the health of my skin and clearing up the base before creating a skyscraper. Skyscrapers are beautiful but if they don’t have a solid and strong base, they are likely to fall.

In other words, I want all of you to grow a strong foundation for knowing that you are beautiful with or without makeup and that makeup doesn’t define how good looking you are to society. You are beautiful no matter what someone says. Your “imperfections” add to your beauty.
